The best solutions, of course, would be multiple interface sizes (similar to Kontakt), and the ability to switch between parameter and GUI view. It is up to the interface designers just how realistic they try to make a plugin look, how many different sized versions of the same instance there should be, how crowded the window should be with controls, etc. While there is no real tactile feedback, musicians and engineers who have gotten used to outboard equipment have an immediate recognition of and mental association with the on-screen controls, and feel comfortable dialing settings into the mix. I think there is certainly a reason plugin interfaces try to mimic outboard gear. I know Aether is algorithmic and Spaces is a convolution reverb but in the end I wanted to have the most versatile reverb that will have the power to make me sound different. I now remix everything with that, haven't sleep for 2 days! Spaces must be very nice but I gave around 220$ for Aether and their two packs, one for sound design and one for known halls and places.
I also loved the extra "sound design" presets like forest, canyon and cave, for me its the real deal. I tried to make some tests and I rendered the same file two times and put it in a new session mixed them together and reversed the phase of the one to see what is going on, the Aether has chaotic mathematics under it and a superior engine and it gives you different result for the same numbers, so it sounds more physical than any reverb you will ever try. also in spaces the IR was recorded specifically for each orchestral organ and this its amazing what this can do to your mixes, but after much consideration and testing I found Aether to be a complete Beast of a reverb. I was very close buying the spaces from East West as I own all of their Play libraries and this was going to be a very nice addition. I just purchased the 2Caudio's Aether with their expansion packs, they have a sale now, and the people was very fast and friendly with a problem I had with my transaction.
